Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a housewife and Parton is a tobacco farmer. At the age of 12, she began performing on Knoxville TV and at 13 she had already begun recording on an obscure label and performing at the Grand Ole Opry. She moved to Nashville in 1964 to begin her country-singing career following her graduation from high school. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving entrepreneur, fell for her and they got married on May 30 in 1966. In 1967 her singing caught the attention of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to perform on his program, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). The show aired for seven years. Her duets gained fame and she sang with the Porter Wagoner group at the Grand Ole Opry. She also sold records and toured. In 1970, when her hit song "Joshua", reached #1, her fame was just too high to match his. In 1974, she set out on her own and recorded duets with his. In 1974, she quit the duo to become a solo artist. Dolly gained immense popularity as a songwriter/singer. Dolly was awarded numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-1971 1971, 1975-1976, 1975-1976). The diminutive (5'0") beauty was an easy fit for television. By the mid-1970s, she was often appearing on TV specials, talk shows, and before receiving her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her track "Here You Go Again." Dolly made her movie debut in 9 to 5, the year 1980. The film was nominated for an Oscar for the title track and also for Grammy awards 2/3: Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. She got more fame for appearing in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), and in Rhinestone (1984) with the track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire worth over $100 million. In 1986, she created Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was in celebration of her Smoky Mountain childhood. She was a part of the Dolly (1987 television series) as herself. In 1988, she received another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals for "Trio".
